In our Weekly Stated Drills, we strive to build better cadets and
connect them to their world, the world of work, and the military
community by providing a variety of training and activities. But
sometimes that isn't enough. We want more for our cadets, and they want
more as well.
Following our district's Top Five acheivement model, we have created
five distinct fields of related training. Our "First Five" is a sampling
of we believe are the most relevant and well-balanced set of training,
one or two from each of our five Intermediate Training strands (or color
groups). Not everything we offer and do is going to be the right fit for
everyone. But we require every cadet to try a little bit of everything
to make a well informed decision.
The five categories are Seamanship, Physical Fitness, Fieldcraft,
Knowledge, and Leadership. Each category has several different
activities and training opportunities to build cadet knowledge,
self-discipline and leadership skills. Many of the specific activities
we provide are in partnership with our service organizations, flagship
exercises, and community associations who offer related content. All of
this is in addition to our core Sea Cadets training program.
Some of these are not specifically Sea Cadet functions, but we have
formed these partnerships to enhance our offerings and cater to a
variety of interests for our cadets. Please contact us if you would like
more information.
At the end of each section is a "wolf challenge" for cadets who
want to go above and beyond the basic requirements. In return they may earn a token of their
excellence in the form of an aguilette (rope), ribbon, or pin. Wolf Challenges
are rigorous expansions of our top five in which we provide cadets with
real world challenges or competitions through which they can strive for
excellence and achieve recognition in our unit and community.

While these are not particularly dangerous, these are also NOT easy.
Many require cadets to go outside their comfort zone, or require extra
training, extrordinary discipline, and often overcoming fear and
anxiety. All of Wolf Challenge activities are supervised and awarded by
the adult staff of the command under the authority of the commanding
officer.

Continued and intentional work in any of these strands is available and could lead
cadets to not only greater recognition and rewards
through the "Ropes" system, but also instill within them a greater sense of
pride, accomplishment and self-reliance.
